Working to assure the longterm viability of top carnivore wildlife in the west.

WHAT WE DO

WILDLIFE'S TOP PUBLIC RELATIONS FIRM

Big Wildlife was formed in 2006 to provide a voice for keystone wildlife and top carnivores such as cougars, bears, coyotes, and wolves in North America. Dynamic, gutsy, and visionary, Big Wildlife combines innovative media strategies with nuts and bolts grassroots organizing. We provide training to activists – including hands-on skills development workshops in organizing, outreach, lobbying, and media – coordinate grassroots efforts at the local level, build effective coalitions with alternative voices, and work closely with activists to generate media. (See our extensive guide to activism here).

Since our founding in late 2006, Big Wildlife has led the campaign to save Oregon’s cougars, galvanized public support for these magnificent, wild cats, and received extensive media coverage of our efforts. We also initiated a campaign to end Oregon’s barbaric policy of killing bears who peel bark from trees on corporate timberlands. In 2007, we exposed the federal government's gruesome practice of beheading coyote pups with shovels. Big Wildlife has consistently called for a ban on trophy hunting of predators because such a brutal "sport" is unethical, scientifically indefensible, and cruel. In the coming months, Big Wildlife will launch its ambitious Communities Conserving Carnivores program to assist communities throughout the west with developing strategies to peacefully coexist with wildlife.

By providing campaign leadership, empowering grassroots, broadening the base of support for wildlife, and educating others, Big Wildlife has become, in a sense, wildlife's top public relations firm. We are the big voice for those unable to speak for themselves. Big Wildlife offers our campaign, training, and media services to individuals and organizations devoted to saving North America’s carnivores.
